JELLICOE’S SON A SOCIALIST
(Special Correspondent—NZ.P.A.) Recd. 8.35 p.m. London, Nov. 9 Earl Jellicoe, D. 5.0., M.C.. Non of a former Governor-General of New Zealand, became a Socialist and intends to sit in the House of Lords as a Labuor Peer, reports the “Daily Herald.” When asked his reasons, he replied: “I have faced tin to the facts. L have seen Europe and now I knpw. When I joined up, five years ago, I had not taken much .interest in politics. After ail, I was young. I may not be able to attend in the House of Lords often, for I have my living to make. I may join the Foreign Service.” Now 26, and a colonel, Earl Jellicoe was in the Coldstream Guards until he became a Commando officer. He won the M.C. and D.S.O. He led the parachutists who captured Araxos airfield in the Peloponnese, and who, three weeks later, were the first force to enter Athens. He is applying for mem bership of the Fabian Society, and will probably join the local branch of the Labour Party at Ascot.
