SHOW OPENS TO-DAY

WANGANUI’S VICTORY FIXTURE FULL TWO DAYS ASSURED Given fine weather, the Wanganui Agricultural and Pastoral Association's 1945 spring show, which open* at the Racecourse to-day should prova the most successful fixture since prewar years. It will be the first full show held in Wanganui since November, 1939, after which the association’! activities were curtailed by the outbreak of hostilities. Large entries have been received for most sheep, cattle and horse sections of the show, the New Zealand chilled beef championship this year being particularly well supported. Most of the sheep and cattle sections will be judged to-day, but the chilled beef and the annual competition for fat lambs most suitable for export are among the few stock sections which will he judged to-morrow. With the exception of the chilled beef championship, all exhibits will ba judged at the showgrounds. Follow, ing the custom of the past few years, however, the association has decided to again use Freeman R. Jackson and Company's saleyards, Taupo Quay extension, for the chilled beef. To be known as the Victory Show the association's fixture this year will extend over two full days, with the grand parade timed to begin at 3 o'clock to-morrow afternoon. In the horse section alone a full programme has been arranged with judging of some classes beginning at 10 a.m. today. In all, there are 35 classes for horses, extending over two days. Tha West Coast, hunters' jumping championship will be held to-morrow afternoon.

An innovation this year will be tha introduction of sheep dog trials in driving and yarding. These will be held to-morrow, beginning at 9 a.m. Competitors must drive through four sets of hurdles a race 3ft. in width, and yard, the time allowed befn« 12 minutes.

Under the auspices of the Pipers and Dancers’ Association of New Zealand, national dancing competitions will be held at the showgrounds to-morrow. The 20 classes on the programme Include a wide range of sections and entries are already being received from all parts of the district. Large crowds are expected te visit the show to-morrow, when many Wanganui establishments will be closed all day. The show will open at 9 a.m. each day and to-morrow night will be onen from 7 o'clock till 10.30, when ‘‘Sideshow Alley’’ will be the principle attraction.
