PRE-WEDDING PARTIES (0.C.) Waverley, Nov. 5. Miss Ida Lupton and Mrs. A. Lupton were hostesses at a tennis afternoon recently at "Hayes,” in honour of Miss Pat Pearce. Guests brought pantry gifts and an enjoyable pme was spent playing tennis and looking around the garden. Competitions were won by Mesdarties H. G. Birch and i. Parsons. 4 _ Mrs. P. G. Bremer and Mrs. A. E. Symes also entertained at a handkerchief afternoon for Miss Pearce, and this week Mrs. Brewer is holding an afternoon in her honour. Miss Elaine Prout, whose wedding is next week was guest of honour at a gift, afternoon arranged by Mrs. R. Morrison and Miss V. Aiken on Saturday, and held at. the home of the latter. Mrs. J. R. Cook and Miss D. Hughes won the competitions. Miss Prout wore a powder blue frock, a matching spray of blue forget-me-nots and pink rosebuds, and navy and white accessories. WAVERLEY TENNIS AND CROQUET CLUB The weather favoured the Waverley Tennis and Croquet Club on Saturday afternoon, when the official opening was held, it having been postponed from the previous week on account of the rain. A good crowd, including several new members and visitors from the Waitotara Club, attended and the patron's wife Mrs. Groves, hit the first ball over the net. The president, Mr. J. P. Stewart, welcomed the visitors and new members, and expressed the hope that it would be a good season.
