LIVESTOCK MARKETS

WANGANUI SALE Fat cattle were firm at late rates at the weekly Wanganui stock sale yesterday, but store cattle and runbred cattle had an erratic sale, some pens selling well, with other lots neglected. Yearling Jersey heifers, although a shade easier, enjoyed a very good sale and clearance, oddments of dairy cows selling at reduced rates. Fat sheep were a shade easier and store sheep met a better sale, with more inquiry. In the pig section there was a general easing but hard-done weaners were at low figures. No vealers were yarded though there is a very strong demand. The following quotations are reported by the auctioneers, Messrs. Freeman R. Jackson and Co., Ltd.: Sheep.—Fat sheep, woolly wethers, 34s 4d to 38s; shorn 26s to 30s; ewes, woolly, 245; shorn, 17s 9d; 2-tooth wethers, 22s to 245; ’Down-cross, 21s to 255; poor-conditioned ewes, with late lambs, 14s, all counted; woolly 4tooth wethers, 33s 3d.
