MARTON HOSPITAL

Sir,--During the past, few months the question as to whether Marton is to have a public hospital has been very much in the public mind. There have been two public meetings in Marton, one called by the Mayor of Marton, and one called by the Wanganui Ho. pita! Board. Th? Marton people have on both occasions left no doubt where they stand; but they have not received any support, as far ;-s I know, from the M.P. for R.ingitikei. In fact our M.P. has been very conspicuous for his silence regarding this important, project for the Marlon listrict. Sir, I think it. is about time Mr. Gordon let the electors of the Marlon dislricl_.kJio.w. -where he stands, .and

whether he is interested in the health and future well-being of his constituents. Hoping you will give this letter some valuable space in your paper.— I am, etc., J. S. MCDONALD Marton, Nov. 5, 1945. The subject of a public hospital for Marton being a local body affair it would be inappropriate io make it a political issue. Mr. Gordon’s abstention from taking sides is in conformity with appropriate practice for one in his position. When the issue is decided one way or another it will be Mr. Gordon’s function to further it to the best of his ability. Were he to advocate one line of action and lhe community decide on another course, his prior advocacy would prejudice his subsequent activities. —Editor.
