Mr. J. Bennett, formerly station master, Huntly, has taken up his new duties as assistant traffic manager, Wanganui. He was previously stationed in Wanganui as a wagon supply officer from 1918 to 1926. Mr. J. Hannah, formerly train running officer in the district traffic manager’s office, Auckland, has taken Up his duties in a similar position at Wanganui. * ■

Flying-Officer H. Cuming, Royal New Zealand Air Force, Wanganui, has been transferred from the active list to the reserve of officers, states the New Zealand Gazette. Mr. A. Hazlett, stationmaster, Turakina, has been transferred to New Plymouth, where he will carry out the duties of stationmaster’s clerk. Mr. H. W. Smith, New Plymouth, will fill the vacancy at Turakina.

Mr. E. A. Batt was re-elected chairman of the council of the Automobile Association (Wellington) at a recent meeting of the council. This is his sixteenth consecutive year of office, Mr. H. Shortt was re-elected vicechairman.

Mr. S. W. Hills, postmaster Patea, has received notice of his transfer in charge of the post office at Waihi and will be leaving shortly to take up his new position. At the monthly meeting of the Patea Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Hills wrote tendering his resignation and thanking members for the assistance they had given him, particularly in connection with Victory and other loans which had always been over-subscribed in Patea. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr. E. F. Hemingway, seconded by Mr. S. R. Murray, that the chamber place on record its warm appreciation of the services rendered by Mr. Hills to Patea during his four years’ residence in the town and that the chamber congratulate him on his promotion and wish him every success in the future.

Mr, G. G. Ldttleohn, assistant-gen-eral manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd., will retire on pension on December 31, when he will have completed over 45 years of service. He reached retiring age in 1942 but at the request of the board of directors, agreed to carry on during the war. Mr. Littlejohn joined the bank at Milton in 1900, and has held a number of senior positions in the bank’s service, including the manr agerships of Pukekohe, Dargaville, Oamaru, and Christchurch branches. He was appointed an inspector in 1936, and assistant-general manager the following year. Mr. H. W. Whyte, formerly assistant manager at Auckland, has been appointed to succeed Mr. Littlejohn. He recently returned to file Dominion after a brief visit to the bank’s head office in London. Mr. Whyte joined the bank at Port Chalmers in 1920, and has served at Port Chalmers and Dunedin branches, in the general manager’s office, Wellington and in the head office, London, He was appointed as-sistant-manager at Auckland in 1942.
