INSPECTORS CHECK UP

WARRANTS OF FITNESS NOT RENEWED

As a result of a check up made by Wanganui City Council traffic inspectors on August 22, several motorists and drivers of motor vehicles were prosecuted in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday for failing to renew warrants of fitness or drivers’ licences. Inspectors H. E. Tipper and E. Hamling appeared for the City Council. The following were fined 10s, with costs 10s, for not having warrants of fitness: Leonard Corney, Nora Blanche Gibbons. Gordon Hastings. James Lloyd McGahon. Leonard Oswald Rayner and Clive Sandilant.

“I must take that into account,’’ said the magist-ate when imposing a line of £l, costs 12s, on Clarence Flyger, charged with not having a warrant of fitness for a light truck. It was stated that in this case the warrant of fitness was 18 months overdue.

Hector Lionel McCabe was fined 10s, costs 10s, for not having a d’ iver’s licence. Inspector Hamling said defendant’s license was seven weeks overdue.

Inspector J. H. Delves also prosecuted on behalf of the Transport Department. in several cases of persons charged with breaches of the regulations.

James Ellery Dewe was fined £1 and costs 10s for not having a warrant of fitness. "This .had not been renewed for the current year and it Is not known how long it was oveidue,” said Inspecto * Delves. On a further charge of not having a driver’s licence, defendant was fined 10s, costs 10s. Wililam Edward Davis was fined 10s, costs 10s, for not having a warrant of fitness for his car.
