Mr. H. F. Low, acting editor of th* Wanganui Herald, and Mr. A, Holrovd, manager of the Wanganui Woollen Mills,, were inducted as members ot the Wanganui Rotary Club yesterday. Mr. E. H. L. Bernau was elected president of the Wanganui Cricket Association, at the annual meeting last night. He is an old boy of the Wanganui Collegiate School, and a former New Zealand Cricket representative player. Mr. N. A. Lowe, who has been honorary secretary of the Wanganui Cricket Association for the past five years, retired from that position at last night’s annual meeting of the association. Warm tributes were paid to his services and it was decided to minute the association's appreciation of his good work. Mention was made of the co-operation given by Mrs. Lowe. The new honorary secretary is Mr. K. Connor.

Mr. J. H. Hayhow, retiring president of the Wanganui Cricket Association, who is indisposed was referred to at last night's meeting of the Wanganui Cricket Association by Mr. F. W. Gilligan. He said Mr. Hayhow had given long and valued service to lhe game of cricket in Wanganui. The hope was expressed that Mr. Hayhow would soon be restored to his usual good health. It was decided to forward Mr. Hayhow a letter wishing him a speedy recovery. Mr. J. D. Howitt, Wellington, who is re.iring from the administrative side of cricket after being chairman of the management committee since 1938, is to be forwarded a letter of appreciation of his services for country cricket by the Wanganui Cricket Association. The suggestion was made in a letter to the association, from Flying Officer W. H. Bickley, who stated that Mr. Howitt had taken a great interest in the affairs of the Minor Associations.

Captain D. W. McElwain, of the Directorate of Psychology, Victoria Barracks, Melbourne, has been promoted to the rank of major. Major McElwain is a son ot Mr. and Mrs. W. R. McElwain, Wanganui, and took his B.A. degree at the Wanganui Technical College. He was awarded a Lizzie Rathbone scholarship which enabled him to studv at Victoria University College, Wellington, where h« graduated an M.A., with first clast honours. He then secured a postgraduate scholarship which enabled him to attend the London University, where he eecured his degree as a Dr. of Psychology. He subsequently obtained a lectureship at Perth University (Western Australia). He joined the Services on the outbreak of war, but was eventually demobilised for work at the university, which was an essential occupation. Later, he wai called back into the forces to the Directorate of Psychology. This department Is being expanded to cop* with the vocational guidance part oJ the work of demobilisation, which is in full swing in Australia at present
