D.F.C. AWARDED

FORMER TAWIIERO SCHOOL PUPIL. Flight - Lieutenant B. D. Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Williams, Guyton Street, has been awarded the D.F.C., according to advice received by his parents from the Minister of Defence. Flight-Lieut. Williams who returned to New Zealand about five weeks ago after four years' service, was educated at, the Tawhero School and the Wanganui Technical College, and when ho enlisted in the R.N.Z.A.F. he was in the Public Trust office at. New Plymouth. He was a keen cricketer and harrier. This is the second Distinguished Flying Cross won by an old boy of the Tawhero School, in addition to the Victoria Cross won by Sergcant-Pilol James Ward. Former pupils of the school have also been several times mentioned in despatches. FlightLieut. Williams’ father was for several years headmaster of Tawhero School, and is now headmaster at I he Keith Street School.
