TRENTHAM CAMP
STATE HOUSING SCHEME IDEAL FOR RESIDENTIAL AREA. (P.A.) Wellington, Sept. 22. The Prime Minister has announced that the Trentham military camp area is to be converted into a State housing scheme. The site at present occupied would accommodate at lease 1100 houses and additional area, embracing all usable land in the valley behind Trentham. would provide more than 700, making a total of over 1800. “The whole area,” said Mr. Fraser, “is ideal for a residential district embodying modern features of town planning. The present camp water supply can be made adequate for 8000 people and sewerage facilities also are adequate. Use will be made of existing roads. "Although in the past T;entham camp has served its purpose admirably, it is no longer entirely satisfactory for training for modern warfare. Arrangements are in hand to provide training facilities in other localities. Ordnance stores will remain for the time being. The camp buildings are being examined with the object of using such as are suitable for temporary dwellings."
