REVISION ANNOUNCED
RETAIL PRICES OF TYRES AND TUBES
(P.A.) Christchurch, Sept. 23. Revision of the retail prices of tyres and tubes was announced to-day by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan. The changes include reductions in the prices of many sizes of tyres and tubes for trucks and tyres for cars and motor cycles. They take effect from to-morrow. The over-all reduction over all tyres and tubes is aoout J per cent.
“The new schedule of prices Las been arrived at in discussions between distributors and the Price Tribunal, said the Minister. “The new prices have been made possible by the reduction in the distributors’ margins. Hitherto traders’ margins have varied considerably between one size ana type of tyre and another. These margins have now been equalised cn a new basis, resulting in considerable reductions, affecting 26 out of the sizes of truck tyres sold in New Zealand,” said the Minister
For example, the 32 x 6 tyre formerly retailed at £24 5s will now cost £2l 14s. The largest reduct.c.ns are £7 13s for the 525 x 20 tyre and £7 Ils for the 900 x 20 tyre. Twelve of 22 truck tubes’ sizes are reduced Dy amounts ranging up to £2 2s 6a. Seventy-nine of the 100 sizes of car and motor-cycle tyres have been reduced in price, others remaining unaltered. Examples are 3s for the 475 x 19 tyre, 10s for the 525 by 21 and the 600 x 16, 15s for the 650 by 16 and 26s for the 525/550 x 19 six-ply. Car and motor-cycle tubes are unchanged.
