MARIST CLUB’S ANNUAL REPORT

A successful year was reviewed in the annual report of the Marist Cricket Club, presented at last night’s annual meeting. The report, in part, reads:—

“Although not achieving the same measure of success as in the previous season, the senior team was stiill a force to be reckoned with. “We take this opportunity of extending our congratulations to the Technical College Old Boys’ eleven in their very meritorious victory in the senior competition.

“The performances of the two junior elevens were much more impressive in that the final of the competition resolved itself into a struggle for supremacy between the club’s junior A and B teams. The success of the A team merits the congratulations of the club to both the members of the team and their captain. _ Batting and bowling averages mentioned in the report were: — Senior batting: L. Vasta 37.54, R. Stewart 27.33, J. Hodson 36. Senior bowling: S. Crafar, 34 wickets, average 11.6; J. H. Felts, 28 wickets, average 11.6; E. Neale 28 wickets, average 13.8. Junior A batting: J. Timbs, 21.3, W. Burgess, 18.4, C. Tuffin, 13.8. Junior A bowling: J. Timbs, 66 wickets, average 4.5; C. Tuffin, 34 wickets, average 6; B. Hudson, 15 wickets, average 8.1. Junior B batting: A. Riddell 22.4, L. Bell-Booth 13.2, B. Hillier 10.5.

Junior B bowling: B. Hillier 5 A. Riddell 5.1, Ingram 6. Trophies awarded for meritorious services to the chib during the season were: Muzio Cup (most improved senior player), N. Wallace; McEntee Cup (most improved club bowler), P. O’Malley; Moran Cup (most improved junior player), R. Walls; Koorey Cup (best club member on or off the field), J. Timbs; G. Spooner trophy (best all-round junior player), J. Timbs; Ingram trophy (most consistent junior bat), A. Riddell; Ingram trophy (most consistent senior bat), L. Vasta.

The report recorded the death on active service of Mr. Alan Souter.

Tribute was paid to the work for cricket in Wanganui by the retiring president of the Wanganui Cricket Association, Mr. J. H. Hayhow.
