PLANS FOR SLEEPY FOX
ENGAGED AT ROSEHILL
A cablegram from Sydney states that Sleepy Fox has been accepted for in the Clarendon Stakes, run over nine furlongs at weight-for-age to-day. Immediate'has been withdrawn from this race and also from the Arthur Dight Quality Handicap (special weights), out of which Sleepy Fox has dropped. High Play remains in the Quality Handicap with 8.2, and heads the list of acceptors in the Welter Handicap with 10.7, being in the first division.
Interviewed after his arrival in Sydney E. J. Ellis, Jhe trainer of High Play and Immediate, recounted how, prior to leaving the Dominion, the preparation of his two horses had been interrupted by the snow at Timaru. Then Immediate had knocked his jaw and cracked a piece of bone that had to be removed after it had worked half-way through his guiTls. The story of misfortune was carried further by shipping delays keeping them in New Zealand, whereas it had been intended to be in Sydney a month earlier, and the crossing had been one of the roughest in years. The ship, which usually carried 7000 tons of cargo, had only 2000 tons, with the result that when it hit the big seas it tossed badly. Consequently the horses were swung from side to side and had to be watched constantly to prevent injury. In view of the report, it was little wonder that Immediate started at a long price at. his first tilt, in the Camellia Stakes on Saturday although with Malhero declining to go to the post again the Siegfried gelding advanced to favouritism at the later essay.
