STATE EFFORT TO CHECK IT New 'York, Sept., 19 Acting to arrest the spreading wave of industrial strife, President Truman has ordered a comprehensive reorganisation of the Department of Labour, in which the National War Labour Board, the United States Employment Service and the War Manpower Commission are placed unde? the jurisdiction of the Labour Secretary, Mr. Schwellenach. The latter immediately appointed Mr. Fd'iar Warren the new head of the United States Conciliation Service, with orders to attempt to reach a negotiated settlement in the threatening Detroit automobile situation. President Truman stated that, he did not intend “cracking down” on Detroit, or elsewhere, until all possible methods of a peaceful negotiated settlement had been thoroughly explored.
