MOTORISTS ADVOCATE MILITANT ATTITUDE

MORE PETROL AND TYRES DEMANDS ON GOVERNMENT (P.A.) , Christchurch, Sept. 21 Advocating a more militant attitude by motorists in the pursance of their demands, delegates to the annual conference of the South Island Motor Union, in Christchurch to-day, unanimously carried resolutions seeking the raising of all restrictions on the purchase of petrol and tyres. Delegates at the meeting represented 30,000 members of Automobile Associations in the South Island, and North Island Motor Union officers present gave an assurance that the claims made would have the full sup« port of the 70,000 members of their affiliated associations. The following resolutions were carried: "That the South Island Motor Union, representing 30,000 member motorists, demands, as of right, from the Government:

"(1) That all restrictions regulating the rationing of motor spirits be forthwith rescinded, and the present coupon and licensing systems be abolished "(2) That, likewise, all restrictions regarding the sale of motor tyres to, and the re-treading of motor tyres for, all motorists be forthwith removed. "(3) That the establishment of a tyre industry in New Zealand be noi permitted to interfere with the normal importation of tyres existing before the war.”
