The birthday gathering and husband’s evening will be held in October. Federated Women’s Clubs At the conference of the New Zealand Federation 6£ Women’s Clubs held in Wellington this week, Mrs. T. H. Lowry (Hastings) was elected president for the next two years and as president of the Hastings Community Club, which will now be the clubs to hold their next conference there.

it was agreed that more women police should he appointed in New Zealand and that a uniformed women’s branch should be established, a remit being passed to this effect. The conservation of trees in the Dominion was discussed and a remit passed, stated that legislation be sought which would make it compulsory to plant a tree for every one cut down. In this way, native trees and bush areas would be conserved. An idea enthusiastically received and agreed on was introduced by the Hastings Community Club. It was that the women of New Zealand be asked to subscribe one shilling each to a Winston Churchill Appreciation Fund, the money to go to Mr. Churchill, as a token of women’s appreciation. It was recalled that a somewhat similar gesture was made some years ago to her Majesty Queen Mary. The conference decided to circularize other women's clubs and organisations to find out if they would assist the proposal.
