RELIEF FOR THOSE UNEMPLOYED

LEGISLATION IN U.S.A. Recd. 8 p.m. Washington, Sept. 20. The Senate has passed a Bill providing unemployment relief for a maximum of 26 weeks. However, it rejected President Truman’s recommendation for the payment of 25 dollars weekly. The Bill allows various States to fix the amounts of benefits. The Senate also rejected President Truman’s request that the United States Employment Service remain under Ihe Federal Government until July 1. 1947. The service will be turned, over to the States within three months.

The Senate Banking Committee approved of a Bill pledging the Government to make necessary expenditures “to assure continuous full employment.”
