SIR WILLIAM BEVERIDGE GOING TO INDIA
Recd. 10 p.m. London. Sept. 20. Sir William Beveridge is shortly leaving for India to prepare a report on Social Security and cognate questions for the Indian Government, says the “Manchester Guardian.” The possibility of his undertaking the mission was discussed during the Life of the Coalition Government. The mission will take him out of British politics for a considerable time. Sir William Beveridge was born in Bengal where his father was a civil servant. His mission is regarded as highly important because the Government of India forsees a heavy increase in unemployment which will be aggravated by demobilisation. A total of half a million unemployed is predicted in the Bombay Presidency alone within a few months. butwe LsMs.gtobe aTtp,hn-ed HREE
