At the recent conference on Christian Order, held in Christchurch, about 40 of the 200 delegates were women. Among them were mothers of families, school teachers, a fullyordained minister, a Maori delegate, a kindergarten teacher, a speech therapy specialist, a welfare worker, a Y.W.C.A. secretary, a typist, a trained nurse, a returned service woman, a Salvation Army officer, and deaconesses from various orders. Air Force Relations All members of Air Force Relations are asked to be present at a social afternoon to be given in honour of the committee at Dustin’s Tearoom on Monday afternoon, September 24. An excellent programme has been arranged. Crippled Children’s Handwork The entries in the hand-work competition held by the Wanganui Crippled Children’s* Society for crippled children throughout New Zealand are on display in a window at. McGruer’s. The handcrafts exhibited include knitted articles of all kinds, cuddly toys in felt and lambs’ wool, fancy needlework, smocking, leather work, tatting crochet work, scrap books, sewing and darning. Business and Professional Women’s Club.

The September meeting of the newly-formed Wanganui branch of the Business and Professional Women’s Club which was held in the Y.M.-Y.W.C.A. Lounge this week took the form of a social evening. Competitions were enjoyed, also pianoforte solos by Mrs. D. Abernethy, songs by Miss R. Horrell and elocutionary items by Miss R. Brown. Sister Rachel, Deaconess of St. Pauls Presbyterian Church, gave a short talk ch her work. A discussion took place re programmes for the remainder of the year. At the October meeting Mr. S. R. Morrison, Tutor Organiser for the Wanganui-Taranaki district of the W.E.A. will give an address on the discussion courses, and also talk on some subject of topical interest.

A.F.R. Knitters Entertained The convener of the wool committee of Air Force Relations, Mrs. C. J. Burr, and members of the committee, Mesdames P. H. Ward, W. L. Burgess, Garland Jones, and P. Greager entertained at the latter’s home on Wednesday the original group of knitters, who for six years knitted up and handed in one garment, a week. Mrs. Ward, on behalf of the A.F.R. thanked the knitters for the work they had done. The convener gave a resume of the work accomplished and said all would be gratified when they heard lhe repori which was to be read at the meeting next month. Miss Christie, of Fordell, thanked Mrs. Greager for the use of her home ana for the kindly gesture of the committee. Mrs. S. J. Robinson was the winner of the competition. Afternoon tea was served in the dining room which was decorated with spring flowers. The president of A.F.R., Mrs C. R. White, and Mrs. Gifford Moore, a previous convener of the wool committee, were also present.
