AVONDALE CUP WON BY OUR GOLD

BATAL TAKES GUINEAS (P.A.) Auckland, Sept. 9. The Avondale Jockey Club's meeting was held at Ellerslie yesterday in line weather before a large attendance. The track was heavy. Our Gold, at double figures, stayed on a little better than the fvourite Chung Chong to win the Avondale Cup. The warm fancy, Master Robin was well beaten by Batal (Battle Song—Almal in the Guineas, just shading General Lytup for second place. The totalisator handled £175,065 10s, against £1.59 647 10s, an increase of £15.418.
