Spring Race Meetings- By “Kestrel”
The first important race meetings o£ the post-war period were held on Saturday, the Wanganui Jockey Club’s spring fixture being opened and the Avondale Jockey Club’s meeting being hdld at Ellerslie. Rain affected the northern fixture, but the Wanganui gathering was held in fine weather after morning showers. Cramond Bay won the Marangai Handicap and Kuri the Flying Handicap at Wanganui, the Debutant Stakes, first two-year-old race, going to the favourite Kirstymac, the only favourite to win. Some surprises were sprung on backers at the Avondale meeting, where Our Gold won the Cup at double figures and Batal downed Master Robin in the Avondale Guineas.
