WESTPORT HARBOUR

ADVISORY COMMITTEE SET UP (P.A.) Parliament Bldgs., Sept. 5. “A local problem demands the best! use of local knowledge,” said the Min-i ister of Marine, Mr. O’Brien, to-night, I announcing the appointment of an advisory committee for the Westport Harbour. The Minister said the difficulties experienced with the harbour for the last 20 years, particularly in the last three years, made it imperative that there should be a local committee on ] the spot to advise in any matters which would assist to iron out imme-| diate difficulties, and to examine longrange plans for permanent improvement of the harbour. With this in view the Government has appointed an advisory committee at Westport, composed of representatives of local bodies, the harbour authority, shipping and mining companies, and workers involved in coal production and harbour maintenance. The initial committee comprises the engineer-manager of the Westoort Harbour, Mr. A. C. Bascand. chairman
