The Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev. A. K. Warren), who has served abroad as a chaplain, has returned to the South Island is making a good recovery from his wounds. Mr. W. L. Bell, acting district engineer. Public Works Department, has been appointed assistant district engineer, Wellington. A son of the late Mr. William Bell, he is well known in the Wanganud district.

Mr. P. Butler, one of the members of the New Zealand delegation to attend the International Laoour Conference, at Paris, has arrived in London by air. He at present is attending the conference of the International Federation of Trade Unions. Mr. Stan Abel, of Hunterville, who has been ill in bed for the past six weeks, is now an inmate of the Wanganui Public Hospital, where he will be for some time. Mr. Abel is the "Chronicle’s” agent and correspondent at Hunterville. Dr. B. H. Wilson, advisory assistant on wool problems to the British Government, left Palmerston North by air yesterday for Christchurch. He was welcomed at Massey Agricultural College on Tuesday by Dr. E. Marsden, secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industr.al Research, and entertained at luncheon there. Mr. T. G. Taylor, barrister, of Wellington, has been appointed as successor to Mr. R. W. Fenton on tne National Rehabilitation Council. Mr. Fenton has resigned from the council following his retirement from the executive committee of the Returned Services Association. Mr. Taylor, who is a member of the committee, was for some time the R.S.A. representative on the Wellington district rehabilitation committee. Mr. Keeble Thurkett, of Wellington, a member of the R.N.Z.A.F. Band has been adv.sed by the secretary of the Trinity College, London, of his success in passing his practical examination tor conC/-torship of military bands, L.T.C.L. degree. It is understood this is the first occasion that it has been awarded in New Zealand. Mr. Thurkett holds the same degree for the pianoforte, for which he was awarded the gold medal.
