COLLEGE PRODUCTION OF “IOLANTHE”

To-morrow the Girls’ College will present the Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera ’’lolanthe” in the College Hall, .uiss Jean Evans, well known to those .j ter esled in drama, is responsible for the production of the opera, and Mr. T. Puryer is in charge of the music, which is particularly attractive and well suited to the pitch and tone of girls’ voices. The soloists are well equipped for their work and also take part in charming trios and quartettes. It says much for those in charge that the words of both choruses and dialogue are so distinct. Brightness is the prevailing note throughout the opera, and this is happily reflected in the dressing, the gay colours of the fairies "tripping hither, tripping thither” being a contrast to the slov er moving peers, garbed in their ermine and long red cloaks. Because of the demand for tickets, the performance will probably be repeated on Thursday next.
