MARTON NOTES

RANGITIKEI COUNTY ELECTION In the Rangitikei County there will be an election lor the Ruantii Riding, Ihd candidates being Messrs. L. h. Deacon (sitting member) and J. B. Collier. For the combined district of Rangitikei Coufity and Bulls, Hunterville and Mangaweka town districts, there will be an election of four members for the Wanganui Hospital Board. The candidates are: Messrs. A. S. Coleman, A. P. Howard, D. D. Simpson. D. G. Gordon (sitting members', and Mrs. M. Harris (Turakina Valley). For the combined district of the major portion of the Rangitikei County and a portion of the Kiwitea County, there will be an election for three members for the WanganuiRangitikei Electric Power Board. The candidates are: Messrs. K. W. Dalrymple, R. G. Dalziell (sitting members), F. R. H. Brice, L. E. Deacon and R. S, Treadwell. The chief polling booth is at the Rangitikei County Office. MARTON MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS For eight seats on the Marton 1 Borough Council there are thirteen candidates: Messrs. K. A. Williams, K. H. Fowler, J. R. Howard, W. J. Mogridge (sitting members), A. S. Todd, A. Grade, E. Fogelberg, R. Poppelwell, R. Kendrick, Whale, S. Wilson and S. Whale. The polling booths are at the Marton Borough Council Chambers and at Marton Junction. There will also be an election for the return of one representative on the Wanganui Hospital Board for the combined districts of the boroughs of Marton and Taihape, the candidates being Messrs. T. C. Kincaid (sitting member) and G. A. McLean. Polling booths at Marton, Marton Junction and Taihape. HAWKESTONE GOLF CLUB The Hawkestone Golf Club held a very successful ”500” flag evening at Gould’s cafe on Thursday. The winners were Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Ball, Mrs. G. Denbow and Miss A. Dawbin, and the consolation prizes were awarded to Mrs. E. Fogelberg, Mrs. J. Glengarry, Miss T. McDonald and Mr. P. Gronn. The competition was won by Mrs. F. Frederick. Mrs. K. Foxier and Mr. R. C. Ball contributed vocal items. SHOEING DISCONTINUED Owing to shortage of labour, Mr. A. H. Dales, Lower High Street, Marton, notifies that shoeing of horses will be discontinued from May 31 at his establishment. ST. JOHN AMBULANCE DANCE To-night’s attraction is St. John'Ambulance's dance in the Empire Hail, Marton. Good music, novelty dances and an excellent supper. The proceeds are in aid of the building fund. WOMEN’S DIVISION N.Z.F.U. BONNY GLEN-SOUTH MAKIRIKIRI BRANCH The annual meeting of the Bonny Glen-South Makirikiri branch was held i at Mrs. W. Gow’s residence early lust month, when it was decided to cafty on this year having two monthly meetings. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mrs. W. Gow; secretary, Mrs. John Glasgow; treasurer, Mrs. Leslie Gudopp; vice-presi-dents, Mrs. Vic. Whittington and Mrs. C. Gudopp; committee, Mesdames W. Emmerson, S. Bertram, L. ’ Wing, B. Wilhelm, and H. V. Gudopp; delegates to Provincial Executive, Mrs. C. Gudopp and Mrs. Vic. Whittington. The next meeting will be held at Mrs. H. Wing’s on June 21, each member to bring one small plate. A SOCIAL EVENING A most enjoyable evening was spent at Mr. H. A. Nitschke's woolshed on Monday night when over forty friends gathered to farewell Miss Hazel Lankshear, who has been herd-testing in the district, for three years and is leaving to take up nursing. The evening was spent in dancing to music rendered by Miss L. Wilhelm and Mr. G. Wilhelm. During the evening Miss Lankshear was presented with a manicure set and writing case from her many friends. MARTON MUSICAL SOCIETY A committee meeting of the Marton Musical Society was held on Thursday, May 25. and it was decided to stage the musical comedy “Rainbow Lodge.” The producer will be Mrs. R. Williams: ballet mistress. Miss M. Lound; chorus under the baton of Mr. J. W. Gibson, and the orchestra tinder the baton of Mr. Geo. Denbow. The cast will be announced at the meeting of the society, which is to be held on Monday night, May 29, in St. Stephen's Parish Hall. COURT LITTLE JOHN, A.O.F. The monthly meeting of Court Little John, A.0.F., was neld on Tuesday, C.R. Bro. H. D. B ush by presiding. rhe following were nominated as officers tor the ensuing halt-year:— C.R., Bro. C. C. Griffin; S.C.R., Bro. F. Duncan; S.W., Bro. W. A. Watt; J.W., Bro. G. Lewis; 5.8., Bro. R. Upchurch; J. 8., Bro. F. Davies; secretary. Bro. L. Mclndoe. For the postion of treasurer the following were nominated: P.C.R.'s Bro. G. Grey, F. Duncan and C. C. Griffin; trustee, P.C.R.’s Bros. G. Lewis, F. Duncan, G. Grey, J. Wales, C. C. Griffin and R. A. Upchurch. A special summoned meeting will be held on June 27 to elect the treasurer and also a trustee. It was decided to invite the district officers to be present at the meeting and also members of Court Rhoderick Dhu, Wanganui.
