GERMANS CHANGE COMMANDS
TWO GENERALS SUPERSEDED Recd. 6.30 p.m. Landon, April 22. A reshuffle in the German command m Russia, with General Model replacing Field-Marshal von Mannstein in the Carpathian sector, and General Schoerner succeeding Field-Marshal von Kleist on the Lower Dniester front, is reported by the Stockholm Tidningen’s Berlin correspondent. Reuter’s Stockholm correspondent says reports from Berlin state that Colonel-General Model’s promotion to the field is taken in Berlin military circles to confirm that he has taken over command of the most important sector of the Eastern Front from von Mannstein. He is probably now in charge of the great German counterattack at Stanislawow, in a determined bid to defend the Carpathians.
