U.S. ENVOY TO N.Z.

APPOINTMENT MADE (P.A.) Wellington, March 10. The nomination of Mr. Kenneth Stuart Patton as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary of the United States in New Zealand was announced to-day by the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser. He said Mr. Patton had had a long career in the United States Foreign Service. He had held a number of important consular and diplomatic appointments in Europe and over 20 years had been stationed in Paris, Belgrade, Leipzig, Batavia, Amsterdam, and Singapore. He would come to New Zealand from Calcutta where he had been consul-general for the past two years. Mr. Patton was born at Salem, in Virginia, in 1882 and was educated at the University of Virginia, in Paris, Sorbonne and John Hopkins University. A Wasnington message, confirming this, says other United States diplomatic nominations include that of MajorGeneral Thomas Holcomb, a (retired Marine Corps commandant, as Minister to South Africa.
