PATRIOTIC FUNDS i\ ORTS CLUB CONTRIBUTION. • (0.C.) Hunterville, March 10. , The balance-sheet for the recent Hunterville sports meeting, which has been handed to the "Chronicle” lor publication discloses that the nett profit was £157 15s lid and a cheque lor this amount has been forwarded to the District Patriotic Fund Committee. Last year the amount raised for patriotic purposes by the clu-n was £l5O Is lid and the previous year £l2l 10s Bd, thus showing that the popularity of the sports fixture increases eav'year. A noteworthy feature of the balance-sheet is that the entries were as large in the horse events that the entry fees (£3B 17s 6d) actually exceeded the prize money (£36 lbs 6d), and of this latter amount £ll 2s 6d was donated back by winners. Donations to the prize money lor the horse events amounted to £35 6s. The gate takings amounted to £53 3s 9d while the luncheon and afternoon tea organised by the ladies, brought in £4o 10s 9d. The ice cream stall showed a profit of £8 5s 3d and the dance in the evening organised by Mr. C. P. McNabb realised £6 13s 10cI. The Highland dancing section was a very popular feature of the programme and despite rail restrictions it revealed a profit also. The prize money was £6 12s 6d, while donations to this amounted to £8 3s and entry fees brought in £1 Bs. The sheep guessing was responsible for a. profit of £lO. The whole of the expenses were a little over £5O, which is an indication of efficient management on the part of the committee. The committee wishes to express its thanks to all those many people who assisted in making the meeting so enjoyable and successful. There were many generous donations of money, food and trophies, as may be seen by a perusal of the balance-sheet. Special mention must be made of the Ladies’ Committee organised by Mrs. EricDuncan, who took charge of the eaterling so efficiently that they made one- . third of the total net profit.

GENERAL ITEMS. i The "sho-p” organised by the Man- ■ gahoe and Onga Road ladies on sports day in aid of the Red Cross showed a profit of £lO6 3s sd. This amount has been handed to the Hunterville and District Patriotic Purposes Committee with the instruction that it be used for prisoner of war parcels. Two championship games were played on the local 'bowling green yesterday, Kerr defeating Mac Kay 17-14 and Ansley defeating Hurley 24-7. The surprise was the defeat of Mac Kay who is one of the club’s leading skips. Among those recently returned from the Middle East on furlough is WOII Ken Scott, who, prior to the war was head shepherd on Otairi Station. He was welcomed home at a dinner at the station and later was guest of honour at a dance in the "Braemore” woolshed. On behalf of the residents, Mr. I. McNaught presented him with a well-filled envelope. As the result of the sports meeting held at Rata on Saturday patriotic funds will benefit to the extent of some £2OO. Otairi school children were guests at the Pukeroa school picnic and a big programme of races and novelty events gave the little ones a pleasant day. There was a large attendance of parents and friends. A competition for a cake was won by Mrs. W. Knuth.
