CONVOY ATTACKED
AXIS PLANES BEATEN OFF (1 a.m.) London, March 9. An attempt to sink an Allied convoy off North African coast was made by 50 to 60 German planes yesterday. These convoys have been sailing almost unmolested recently, but this latest attack did not catch our defences napping. Five enemy planes were shot down, the convoy being undamaged. We lost two planes.
