WANGANUI LAGGING

HEALTH STAMP SALES “The sale of health stamps in the Wanganui postal district is lagging,” it was stated by a member of the organising campaign yesterday. “In matters of this nature Wanganui has always, in the past, been high up in the list when the final figures have been published, and it seems a pity that for such a worthy object as this that the public as a whole appear apathetic.” Continuing, the member said that despite the wonderful work that a small number of women have and are still devoting to this effort und£r the energetic and capable leadership of Mrs. J. J. Scott (their sales to date have reached nearly £200) other cities and districts comparable to Wanganui have left us well behind. For instance, our total sales to date for the city and district are £B6O, but Palmerston North totals £2200 New Plymouth £lOOO, Napier £l3OO and Hamilton £2500. “If these cities can reach these splendid totals, Wanganui should be able to equal and even better them,” he said.

“It is recognised that the public generally are well acquainted with the great work performed by the Health Camp Committees but their reaction to the present appeal has failed to reach expectations. The sale of these stamps ceases shortly, so a special appeal is made to the public to buy early and generously. “A special table is in use in the public vestibule of the Chief Post Office where public-spirited women are devoting their time and energy to this worthy object and it is hoped that their efforts will be amply rewarded. Every stamp sold means assistance to unfortunate children whose parents are not in a position to give them what they need,” the member concludes.
