BRIGADE’S GOOD SAVE

FIRE AT REAR OF HOUSE Men and equipment attached to the Wanganui Fire Birgade have had little respite during the past few days. Four more calls, two of them to dwellings, were received yesterday. Prompt action saved a house owned by Mrs. W. Sisson, 212 Guyton Street, from serious damage. A painter’s blow-lamp ignited one of the walls and when the brigade arrived in response to a call received at 4.39 p.m. the rear of the dwelling was well alight.. Two machines turned out from Central Station and with the use of firstaid hose lhe fire was quickly under control. The servery and a portion .of the roof were damaged. First call of the day yesterday was at 1.3 p.m. to a dwelling at 266 Victoria Avenue. Toi-toi bushes growing between two houses had caught alight. Frst-aid equipment extinguished the fire before any damage occurred.

Other calls were at. 6.38 p.m. and 8.48 p.m. to grass fires in Heads Ro’ad and the rear of the Gonville Town Hall respectively. Bucket pumps were used and no property damage resulted.
