DISCUSSED BY COUNCIL OF N.Z. MANUFACTURERS (P.A.) Wellington, Nov. 19. The increasingly critical position of manpower was fully discussea at the first meeting of the now Council of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation, states a report issued to the Press. Urgent representations from district manufacturers’ associations disclosed that the position of factory manpower had become much worse over the last two months, and the council decided to take the matter up with the Government. Meantime, it is added, “certain detailed information regarding loss of production in factories through shortage of manpower, and information which is becoming increasingly available regarding the wastage of manpower, and also woman-power, in the armed services, is being collected from district manufacturers’ associations and from ;other affiliated organisations.” The report states that other matters discussed included the question of the increased prices of imported goods and the effect on the price of New Zealand manufactured goods and on the stabilisation policy. A lengthy discussion was devoted to the problems of post-war trade and rehabilitation, and a report prepared by a special committee of the federation with reference to safeguarding the industrial economy of country was considered for submission to affiliated associations.
