DISTINGUISHED CLERGYMEN
VISITING WANGANUI SCON
Three distinguished clergymen ol the Anglican Church will visit Wanganui during the next two weeks. They are the Very Rev. A. K. Warren, Dean of Christchurch Cathedral, the Rt. Rev. F. A. Bennett, Bishop of Aotearoa, and the Rt. Rev. H. W. Baddeley, Bishop of Melanesia, D. 5.0., M.C. and bar, M.A. Dean Warren will arrive at Wanganui from Wellington by the New Plymouth express on Tuesday and at night will speak in the Savage Club Hall under the auspices of the Wanganui Ministers’ Association and the Wanganui Rotary Club, his subject being post-war reconstruction. A recognised authority on this subject, Dean Warren represented the National Council of Churches in New Zealand at the conference held in Princeton, U.S.A.
Bishop Bennett is expected to visit Wanganui on Thursday, December 2. He will preach at a combined service of all parishes, to be held in Christ Church at. 7.30 that night. Bishop Bennett has made a keen study of the Maori race and is competent to speak from practical experience and a sympathetic knowledge of present-day problems. Bishop Baddeley is expected in the city on Monday, December 6. At 5.45 p.m. he will attend a tea given by the Church of England Men’s Society and at 7.30 p.m. will preach at. a service in Christ Church. Bishop Baddeley arrived in New Zealand recently after remaining in the Central Solomons throughout the time of the Japanese occupation of the islands. He also saw service as a combatant, officer in the last war. rising to the rank of lieutenant-colonel and receiving three awards, D. 5.0., and M.C. and bar.
