ST. CHRISTOPHER’S CLUB

WORK FOR CATHOLIC YOUTH Established early this year, the St. Christopher’s Boys’ Club. Wanganui, held one of the most successful nights since its inception when a visit was paid on Wednesday by Mr. Martin Shelley, secretary of the St. Christopher’s Boys Club, Christchurch. Welcoming Mr. Shelley, the ’'resident, Rev. Father P. T. Abbott, S.M.. said that the club in Wanganui wao only in its infancy, but was expanding and playing a large part in the lives of Catholic youths. Its objects were spiritual, educational and recreational. Mr. Shelley gave an outline of the work achieved in Christchurch and made suggestions which the younger club in Wanganui could follow. He referred to the splendid spirit which existed in clubs of this kind and appealed to all Catholic youths to join. House competitions between St. Patrick's and St. Joseph's followed, the teams playing table tennis and quoits. A “quiz” session also proved popular. Two Wanganui boys, at the invitation of Mr. Shelley, will attend the summer camp of the club in Christchurch. It is hoped that a similar camp will be arranged near Wanganui.
