N.Z. AIRMAN’S POEM
PRAISED BY MR. CHURCHILL Reed. 6 p.m. London, Nov. 15. Mr. Churchill has written to a 27-year-old Wellington naval airman, C. J. R. Phelps, congratulating him on a poem he composed entitled “Freedom,” says the Evening Standard. Phelps wrot • the poem while on the way to Br A i from New Zealand to train as a fighter pilot with the Fleet Air Arm. He was inspired by hearing for the first time the “Warsaw Concerto” in a 8.8. C. broadcast which was received on the ship’s radio. Phelps went, straight to his cabin and wrote the poem.
