SHOT DOWN BY SWISS
U.S. FLYING FORTRESS Reed. 6 p.m. London. Oct. 1. Swiss anti-aircraft guns shot down an American Flying Fortress to-day when a group of Fortresses fought a battle against German fighters over Swiss territory, states a Swiss communique. Other planes crashed as a result of the air battle. Bombs were dropped in various parts of east Switzerland, causing damage.
Recn. 9 p.m. London, Oct. 2. The Swiss radio says it was officiall} announced that four American Fortresses were shot down yesterday. They were flying over Swiss territory aftei raiding the Weiner-Neustadt" area. German fi/hters pursued and engaged them. Swiss anti-aircraft guns opened up. Some Fortress crews escaped by parachute.
