OBITUARY

MR. J. B. DAVIS The death has occurred at Kuaotunn, Coromandel, of Mr. J. R. Davis, one of the oldest locally-born residents of the district. He was bom at Kikow'hakariri 82 years ago, and apart from a few years during which he worked in the Waikato and King Country districts, the rest of his life was spent in the Coromandel County. He took up farming, carpentering and bridge-building at Kuaotunu. He is survived by his wife, four sons and seven daughters. MR. H. J. PATON The death has occurred of Mr. Henry John Paton, of Hamilton, aged 89. Mr. Paton was born in Montreal and was educated in England. He travelled extensively as a young man and came 'to New Zealand- in 1878. After farming for ten years at Tamahere he moved to Waharoa, where he. was engaged in farming until he retired to live in Hamilton 11 years ago. Mr. Paton is survived by his wife and one son. MR. S. A. HETHERINGTON A well-known resident of Thames, Mr. Samuel Armstrong Hetherington, has died after a long illness, at the age of 72. He was born at Thames and was the eldest son of the late Mr. Samuel Hetherington. Mr. Hetherington took a keen interest in all public affairs of Thames and district. He is survived by his wife and two sons, who are in the forces. MR. ALFRED LLOYD The death has occurred in Whangarei of Mr. Alfred Lloyd, aged 71 who came to New Zealand on the staff of Lord Ranfurly, then Governor, in 1897. Atfer a period wit‘.i Lord Ranfurly Mr. Lloyd became manager of the Grand Hotel, Palmerston North, and later of the Commercial Hotel, Te Awamutu. In 1912 he founded a taxi service in Hamilton. Six months ago he went to live in retirement with his wife and only son in Whangarei.
