NEW HEALTH STAMPS

CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED BY GOVERNOR-GENERAL “HERITAGE OF CHILDREN” (P.A.> Wellington, Sept. 30. In the course of a broadcast speech in support of the Health Stamp campaign, the Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, stated to-night: —“We are fighting this, the greatest war known to history, in order that our children shall receive from our hands the heritage which we hold in trust for therm We are fighting that they may live the lives we would have them live as free and responsible citizens of a nation, an Empire and a world where tyrannv and oppression shall not prevail. Throughout our struggle, therefore, we must never allow ourselves to forget those who are children to-day. Their spiritual, mental and physical well-being must be the first consideration with us. We cannot do too much for them. “It is particularly about what we can do for their physical well-being that I am speaking to-night. When King George V died it was most fittingly decided that the funds collected for a memorial to that beloved monarch should be used to build and equip permanent health camns for the children of New Zealand. There arc sixteen such camps in New Zealand, though three of necessity have been handed over to the military authorities. and every year some thousands ailing children derive lasting benefit from the treatment and care they receive in these camps. Without them many of these children would b* deprived of any form of healthful recreation and attention. They play a most important nart in New Zealand’s policy of child welfare. The proper majnt-nance of these camps, which in the hands of the Federation of Health Camns. depends on the 1 sunport of the public.” And. added Sir Cvril, he was asking for that support. He announced a new

issue of Health Stamps as from tomorrow, commenting that these were the first triangular stamps ever to be issued in this country. From every one of the lid stamps the public bought id would go to the Health Camp Fund, and for every 3d stamp Id would go to the fund. It was hoped to raise at least £25,000 in this way. He was sure the people would do their share and enable this goal to be attained, for he knew how generous the people of New Zealand were in supporting any really worth-while cause. This was a cause of the highest possible importance, for the health and happiness of many of the next generation depended upon it.
