OBITUARY
-MR. FRANK SMITH, MARTON Mr. Frank Smith, who was accidentally drowned on his farm at Cliff Road. Marton, on Sunday, was born at Bulls, Rangitikei. in 1888 and was a son o r the late Mr. James Smith, who later removed to Marton and resided at Bonpy Glen. Educated at South Makirikiri School, he was married in 1.910 to Miss Frances Maud Oldfield, a daughter of the late Mr. William Oldfield, senior, and one of the oldest settlers in Marton. Twenty-four years ago he acquired his farm on Cliff Road, Marton. This K successfully farmed and it is now a model farm. He took a keen interest n the affairs of ti e Marton District A. and P. Association and was also a member of the Marton Jockey Club and Court Little John, A.O.F. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon. Services at the house and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. James Robertson, and the '• o -firs’ spi-vica at the graveside by Secretary L. Mclndoe, P.C.R. The nail-bearers from the home were Messrs. J. A. Oldfield. G. Oldfield, A. Stantiall, I. Mainwaring, J. W. 1 ../.Hi', and D. O. Hawkins and at the graveside members of Court Little .John, C. R. Bro. G. Lewis P.C.R. Bro. A. Powell and Bros. D. Kinlock, A. Black, N. J. Poppe and L. A. Wing. The many beautiful wreaths testified to the high esteem in which Mr. Smith was held in the district. They included floral tributes Tom Marton A. and P. Association. Marton Jockey Club, Court Little John, A.0.F., Marton -Junction School Committee, St John Ambulance, and N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. The surviving relatives are Mrs. Smith, Misses Betty and Connie Smith and Private Reg. Smith (overseas).
