CHANGES AT WANGANUI Locomtive foreman at Wanganui for slightly more than three years, Mr. C. O. Sander, who is in charge of the locomotive district which extends from Marton to New Plymouth, retires on superannuation at tins end of this week. He has completed more than 42 years’ service. Mr. D. Voltz. senior assistant locomotive foreman at Wanganui, becomes acting-locomotive foreman, and Mr. R. N. Nixon, road foreman, Wanganui, has been promoted assistant locomotive foreman, Wanganui. Mr. F. R. Anstis, senior- driver at Wanganui, has been promoted to succeed Mr. Nixon as road foreman. Mr. A. E. Wilsher, a senior driver at Wanganui, has been promoted to the position of assistant locomotive foreman at Palmerston North. Mr. A. E. Ellis, locomotive foreman. Wellington, for the past six years, also retires on superannuation at the end of the week. Before his transfer to Wellington, Mr. Ellis was locomotive foreman, Wanganui, and is well known in this district. Mr. Sander joined the Railways Department as a cleaner at Cross Creek in September, 1901, and has served at practically every locomotive depot in the North Island as a fireman or driver. In 1937 he was appointed road foreman at Palmerston North, and in 1938 became assistant locomotive foreman at Taihape. He was appointed to his present position in May, 1940. During his long railway service, Mn Sander spent 11 yeans at Te Kuiti as a driver, and was at Tauranga for five years. He was a senior driver at Palmerston North for three years before his appointment to road foreman at that depot.
