BERLIN BOMBED AGAIN

GERMANS CLAIM MANY R.A.F. PLANES SHOT DOWN Recd. 11.30 p.m. London, Sept. 1. R.A.F. bombers attacked Berlin last night. The Berlin news agency said: "The newly-reorganised German air defences inflicted extremely heavy losses on the raiders, whose formations were dispersed and forced to jettison most of their bombs and a concentrated attack was frustrated. Heavy air combats developed in which numerous raiders were shot down.” R.A.F. Mitchells and Typhoons without loss attacked two airfields near St. Pol. Spitfires in the afternoon shot down two enemy aircraft over the Channel, making the day’s bag twelve for the loss of two bombers and three fighters. The 8.8. C. said that the raid was concentrated into 45 minutes and heavy damage was done by the very great load of bombs dropped. Large numbers of night fighters came up to intercept the bombers, 47 of which failed to return.
