COAL MINE TRAGEDY
Recd. 6 p.m. New York, Aug. 29. Gas explosions in a coal mine near Birmingham, Alabama, killed 14 men and seriously burned 18 others. The explosion took place two miles underground. While rescue workers were clearing away the debris to rescue 12 injured men and recover 13 bodies, a second explosion occurred, killing one rescuer and burning six others.
