Particular pains are being taken in official circles to discount reports current in a great many quarters of disagreement or tension between Britain, the United States and Russia, says the Daily Telegraph’s diplomatic correspondent. It is stated emphatically that there is no basis for such rumours. Stalin and his advisers were fully aware of the programme at the Quebec Conference. They have now been informed of its decisions. The correspondent adds that it was almost inevitable that Russia, Great Britain and America should not see eye to eye on the method used in breaking German resistance in Europe. The Russians naturally see the .ar from an essentially Continental viewpoint and regard a direct clash of armed masses seeking a decision on the land on the biggest possible scale as the key to victory. Closer British, Russian and American co-operation is urged by The Times in a leader which says:—"No policy implying coercion of Germany would be practicable in the long run unless it commands the wholehearted assent and collaboration of Russia. This was plain even in the days of Russia’s weakness following Versailles. The creation of a more effective procedure for regular consultation is more important than a single tri-partite conference. Most important of all is the establishment and maintenance of a firm will in Britain and Russia to take decisions in common as a result of full consultation and, if necessary, compromise on I matters of general import to the conduct of the war and the organisation of peace.”
