MEAT RATION IN AUSTRALIA

Reed. 6 p.m. Canberra. Aug. 29. The introduction of virtual meat rationing in Australia on a date to be determined has been announced by the Minister of Commerce, Mr. J. Scully. A quota system is being prepared’ for the allocation of meat supplies to all butchers, and till it is ready supplies for all States will continue to be curtailed. The new measures are temporary, and it is said they will almost certainly be followed by direct rationing early in the New Year. Exports to Britain and service demands for meat are the main reasons for the shortage of civilian supplies. In the past few weeks there has been unofficial rationing erf beef by most metropolitan butchers.
