PATRIOTIC TROTTING

As in the case of the horse race hei-ci in Victoria Avenue in aid of “Miss New Zealand” the previous week, burlesque had tree rein and both spectators and contestants entered into the spirit ot carnival. Seven races were carded and good organisation between the “bookies” and the “tote” enabled starter George Benson to get his fields away to schedlue. Music for the meeting was not lacking, for both the Waiouru Camp Staff Band and the Wanganui Garrison Band were in attendance and played lively selections between events. In addition the Waiouru Band gave a display which won loud applause from all parts of the ground. Later both bands gave a combined march which was also greatly appreciated.
