FIVE U-BOATS SUNK WORK OF U.S. CCMMA.ND Recd. 6 p.m. Washington, Aug. 27. The Army Air Force Anti-sub-marine Command announced that at ■east five U-boats were sunk and five damaged recently by 824 bombers in 13 ai * r '.d sea battics not previously reported. Army Air Force bombers, specially equipped for action agains. submarines, have flown as far as 1000 miles from their home bases battling with submarines. All the planes returned safely, although li\ ' were subjected to sever flak from submarines. Five of the crew of one plane were wounded when an explosive shell smashed through its nose, shattering the instruments, the hydraulic system, and other vital parts of the plane, but the pilot, managed to make a safe landing at their base.
