Mr. Peter Lewis. Wellington, end formerly of Wanganui, is visiting the city. He is a guest at Foster’s Hotel. Flying - Officer Cyril Sharland, R.N.Z.A.F.. has been appointed to the rank of Flight-Lieutenant, according to the New Zealand Gazette. Pilot-Officer T. J. McCashin and Pilot-Officer B. C. Mr. Thomas Auton, Dominion president of the Incorporated Institute of Accountants of New Zealand, left Wanganui on Saturday to attend the 50th. annual meeting of the inslituve, to be held in Christchurch this week. The death occurred on Thursday at a private hospital in Wellington, aiiter a prolonged illness, of Mr. Donald K. Leed, factory representative in New Zealand for Morris industries Exports Ltd. He is survived oy his wife and daughter, Heather.

Captain F. Kirkby, conductor of the Waiouru Staff Camp Band, which played in Wanganui at the week-end, is to retire. Last night at the Opera House was his final appearance with the band, with which no has been associated for the past two years. An accomlished musician, Captain Kirkby has been associated with bands and orchestras for several years. Mr. James Berry Brinsden, chartered accountant, died at his residence, Lower Hutt, on Thursday, at the age of 71 years. He was born in I'otens, England, the son of Captain James Brinsden, a well-known shipmaster trading between England and Australia in inc early days, and was 11 years of age when his parents settled in South Australia, In ISBB he joined the Dunlop Rubber Company in Melbourne, soon after which he was sent to Christchurch as accountant to the branch there. Later he became manager of that branch. In 1910 Mr. Brinsden established branches of the Dunlop Rubber Company in Wellington and Auckland, and became general manager for New Zealand, a position he held till his retirement in 1926. Since then he had practised as an accountant privately in Wellington. He leaves a widow and two daughters.
