PARCEL FROM WANGANUI

ENGLISH SOLDIER’S THANKS While a patient in. a New Zealand military hospital in the Middle East, an English soldier received a gift parcel from the staff of the Wanganui City Council. In a letter of thanks he paid a tribute to the lighting qualities of the New Zealand Division and the scheme for distributing parcels through the National Patriotic Fund Board. In forwarding a copy of this letter to the board Mr. C. R. White, secretary of the Wanganui-Waitotara District Patriotic Committee, wrote: “Those associated with me are proud to think that one of their parcels should hav reached the hands of a Tommy soldier attached to the New Zealand Division. The English soldier’s note to the staff of the Wanganui City Council stated: “May I, through this short note, express my deep appreciation for your most welcome gift received today. This is the first parcel I. have received from anyone outside the family circle. It came as a pleasant surprise. I am a Tommy and had the extreme good fortune to be sent to a New Zealand hospital, and the treatment given to me by the staff here is wonderful. They can’t do enough for me. I have made many friends here among the Kiwis—including the dentist. The Kiwi name ranks among the highest out here, and I am proud to say that I knew them in the desert and in hospital. With such noble and fine work being done u>p here and ‘down under,’ we can’t lose.”
