BIG DIVIDENDS AT HAWERA LAST MATCH WINS HUNT CUP HALCOMBE TO KINSMAN Large dividends were the order of the day at Hawera on Saturday, when the Combined Hunt Clubs’ race meeting was staged by the Taranaki and ■Bgmont-Wanganui Hunt Clubs. Last Match, carrying only £25 on the win machine and £67 on the place, returned his Hunt Cup supporters nearly three-quarters of a century on the straight-out machine and double figures for a place. Boden Park, outsider of the held of eight in the Stratford Handicap, aiso returned a big dividend of over half a century. Greek Art in the Weraroa Stakes and Red Chief in the Ladies’ Necklace were also double-figure winners, and there were a couple similar in the placings. However, the success of the outsiders did not adversely affect the totalisator turnover, for in spite of the shutting out of about £3OOO in the Ladies’ Necklace, when the machine closed early, the turnover was £34,861 10s, compared with £24,916 IQs last year, an increase of nearly £lO,OOO. The Dozer, favourite for the Hunt Cup, ran off when leading half a mile from home, leaving Arabic in front. Huirangi Sun nearly lost his rider at the next jump, the sodwall, but Arabic crashed right into the board fence, the second-last obstacle, leaving Last Match to come on for his surprise win. Kinsman was always handy in the Halcombe Memorial but had to be kept going to hold off Broiveine and Gaymiss, neither of whom had an uninterrupted passage.
