N.Z.E.F. CASUALTIES

THE TOTAL TO DATE FIGURES F OR THE PACIFIC Wellington, Aug. 28 Casualties in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in the Pacific area are mentioned for the first time in the annual report of the General Officer Commanding New Zealand Military Forces, Lieut.-General Puttick. which was presented to Parliament yesterday. It is shown that the casualties in this area, exclusive of those in the R.N.Z.A.F., totalled 45 to March 31 last. These included four died of wounds, ten accidentally killed, five died as result of accident, 11 died as result of sickness, eight missing, six prisoner of war, and one wounded. The total N.Z.E.F. casualties in all theatres of war up to March 31 last are as follows:—2118 killed in action. 1047 died of wounds, 63 accidentally killed, 84 died as result of accident, 159 died from sickness. 7745 prisoners of war, 52 missing, and 9133 wounded.
